YOUTH ULTIMATE ON THE NORTH SHORE

Our competitive programs aim to compete in various provincial & national events every Summer (June – August). Athletes who play for our competitive teams are typically high-school athletes with competitive sport or ultimate experience.

General Details

This year, we’ll be running multiple competitive teams that will play in various Junior division tournaments.

Each competitive team will practice three (3) times per week, compete in at least three (3) tournaments, and participate in at least one (1) training camp. Teams will look to travel to the Okanagan & Bowen Island for various training events throughout the Summer. It’s more than just frisbee – we want to provide an experience for everyone.

*All players registered for Summer are automatically registered for Pre-season training (April 5th – May 22nd) too!

Month-by-Month Description

Pre-season: April 5th - May 22nd

In April & May, there is an option for players to participate in pre-season training (April 5th – May 22nd), focused on developing foundational skills players need to compete at their best during the Summer.

Focus:

  • Proper defensive footwork
  • Creating separation on offense
  • Throwing range (distance)
  • Throwing for advantage (breaking the mark)
We know players also play for their high-school during this time; therefore, volume and load is managed accordingly. The official start to the Summer season is on May 26th.

Important things to note:

  • April 5th: First pre-season practice (Kirkstone, 6:00pm)
  • In April, we practice 4x per week, with a huge emphasis on throwing ability and defensive technique
  • First jersey order: the week of Sunday, April 26th, which ensures pre-season players have jerseys prior to Misfit Cup on June 27th – 28th
  • Second jersey order: late-May (date TBD)
  • May 22nd: Last practice of pre-season

May & June 2026

In June, rather than focusing on developing foundational skills, we instead refine what we have and will work on offensive & defensive systems that compliment where our players are at. This is why the pre-season is important – if we have more tools, we open up more options to compete with.

In late-May, we select which players will be in our touring and regional streams. Touring is for players that intend to qualify for, and compete in the Canadian Ultimate Championships (Nationals) in August. Typically, touring players are in Grades 10, 11, & 12.

Important things to note:

  • Everyone makes a team!
  • May 26th & 29th: Tryouts for touring players
  • May 31st: First practice for touring players
  • June 6th: We’ll aim to have scrimmage(s) against other local Vancouver teams for this weekend
  • June 12th – 14th: All teams will look to attend a training camp & potential one-day tournament in the Okanagan
  • June 25th – 28th: Our Touring team will host Scorch for a two-day training camp (Thursday & Friday) prior to attending Misfit Cup

July 2026

After Misfit Cup in late-June, all teams aim to peak for BCUC on July 11th & 12th. For teams not looking to qualify for nationals, BCUC will be hosted in Surrey. For teams aiming for nationals, BCUC will be hosted in Kelowna. For our touring team to be at it’s best, there will be one final training camp in the Okanagan (July 9th & 10th).

Important things to note:

  • July 4th & July 18th: We’ll aim to have scrimmage(s) against other local Vancouver teams these weekends
  • July 9th & 10th: Our Touring team will be hosted by Scorch for a two-day training camp (Thursday & Friday) prior to attending BCUC Kelowna
  • July 25th & 26th: All teams will look to attend a prospective training camp on Bowen Island
*It is possible that there will be a Tune-up tournament the July 25th & 26th weekend. More details to come!

August 2026

In August, all teams will have one final tournament. There is no confirmed date for Vortex Cup at this time, but it will likely be the August 15th & 16th, or 22nd & 23rd weekends.

If our Touring team was successful at earning a bid to nationals, we will have one final training camp prior to CUC.

Important things to note:

  • August 1st: We’ll aim to have one final scrimmage day against other local Vancouver teams this weekend
  • August 7th & 8th: Our Touring team will host Scorch for a two-day training camp (Friday & Saturday) prior to attending CUC, if we earned a bid
  • August 15th & 16th OR 22nd & 23rd: These are the likely weekends that the final regional tournament, Vortex Cup, will be held
  • August 28th: Last practice for the Summer for all teams!
